High Protein Chocolate Milk
Try out this high protein chocolate milk recipe next time you need a quick and easy breakfast that will keep you full for hours.

I love chocolate milk.
Unfortunately, it’s not the most nutrient dense drink out there. BUT this recipe makes chocolate milk a viable option for a breakfast on the go! Filled with protein, healthy fat, and collagen, I can feel good about what I’m having for breakfast AND enjoy the taste too. Check out the steps and ingredients below to see how to make it for yourself!
Ingredients Needed for Your High Protein Chocolate Milk
Alright, first things first. You will need some good ingredients in order to make a quick breakfast that you feel good about having! And trust me, I feel great about this breakfast because I know the ingredients are so good for me. I drink this high protein chocolate milk probably 3-4 times a week. Part of the reason I drink it so often is because I love the health benefits it offers me in addition to being so delicious. I want to get enough protein, have lots of collagen available for healthy skin and nails (and my growing baby inside of me!), get that vitamin D and calcium from the milk and the magnesium from the organic cacao powder. Healthy and delicious are not mutually exclusive! So prioritize your health with this drink and choose high quality ingredients to maximize the benefits. I have linked the brands I prefer for each ingredient below. Obviously you shouldn’t order the milk or greek yogurt from Amazon (unless you live in a place where Amazon groceries are available to you), but most everything else can be shipped straight to you since they are nonperishable. Now, let’s get on with it!
milk
You will need a high quality milk for this recipe. I personally love to have organic grass-fed whole milk. Maybe it’s a placebo effect, but when I use non-organic, non-grass-fed milk in this recipe, I feel like I can tell a difference. So choose your milk wisely! The brands I commonly use are Horizon Organic or, if you have an HEB nearby, Central Market.

protein powder
This is a crucial ingredient in this high protein chocolate milk, for obvious reasons. It provides the bulk of the protein in this recipe, as well as the bulk of the flavor! So choose a flavor you know you will love. While this is a chocolate milk recipe, I actually prefer to use a vanilla protein powder flavor and get the chocolate flavor from the cacao powder, but you do what you like! Below are a few protein powder options I’ve used personally and enjoyed. My favorite by far, however, is the Just Ingredients protein powder. The quality is just unbeatable!

collagen powder
I love adding collagen powder to this recipe for two reasons. One: it adds extra protein to make this milk REALLY worth having for breakfast. Two: Collagen is vital to our health, especially if you are currently pregnant!! Collagen becomes “conditionally essential” during pregnancy, and it nourishes your baby as all the little organs, bones, connective tissues and vessels form in the womb, not to mention supporting your body as it stretches and grows to accommodate your little one. Do yourself a favor and get more collagen in your diet! I have used both of the brands below, and both are great options!

raw organic cacao powder
Using organic cacao powder provides that chocolatey flavor for your high protein chocolate milk without any of the weird additives used in chocolate milk powders such as Nesquik. Once again, I love the Central Market brand from HEB. But I’m sure any brand of organic cacao powder will work! Just make sure to check the label for any unnecessary additives.

organic coconut sugar
This ingredient isn’t totally necessary, I guess, but it makes it sweet and it’s only one tablespoon of very high-quality sugar, so I don’t see any harm in it. As Mary taught us, a spoonful of sugar makes the medicine go down. If adding one tablespoon of sugar to something that has a ton of other high quality and health boosting stuff in it makes it more palatable to you, by all means, add the sugar!!
plain organic greek yogurt
Another ingredient that adds just a touch more protein! I also loooove the flavor the yogurt gives the chocolate milk and how it thickens the drink a little bit. Once again, be sure to prioritize organic if that’s in your budget! I just use plain flavor, but you could use vanilla if you want. Another bonus to adding greek yogurt? It incorporates probiotics to your diet!

Optional Ingredients
avocado/banana/frozen fruit
When I have any of these ingredients on hand, I throw them in to the chocolate milk! The banana and certain frozen fruits may alter the taste of the drink slightly, so it’s less like chocolate milk and more like a chocolate smoothie, but it is still delish! Adding avocado provides some healthy fats and makes the drink extra smooth and thick. None of these ingredients are required, though, and your high protein chocolate milk is complete with or without them!
Well, I think that covers it. Hope you try out this high protein chocolate milk recipe and that it totally blows your socks off! Leave a comment below if you try it, I’d love to hear what you think!
